Software-defined radios became a hot topic in wireless communications. The capability to change radio parameters as well as to implement several radio components as software is calling more and more attention. An interesting project in this area is GNU Radio, which is a "free software development toolkit that provides the signal processing runtime and processing blocks to implement software radios using readily-available, low-cost external RF hardware and commodity processors".
